At the end of April, we mark our fourteenth year by bringing together two of our favourite long-standing collaborators in a church on top of a hill in South London for the first time. We’ll squeeze both the London Accordion Orchestra and Guildhall Saxophone Ensemble into this special intimate space with all the assorted bellows and reeds for what will be a very big, bold and very physical experience – a celebration in sound.
Entitled The Cautionary Tales, the programme will bring us arrangements and musical stories and dances from across the world including that of Kurt Weill, Leonard Bernstein, Astor Piazzolla, Moondog and LAO conductor and composer Ian Watson. Over the standard three acts of the event - the two groups will perform first separately and then join forces for the finale which will include the world premiere of 'Sgt. Major Flaw' for Accordion Orchestra and Saxophone ensemble, written by Christian Forshaw.
A new venue, a new collaboration, a new commission and plenty of cake fit for a birthday, there is much to look forward to!
